Twilight Zone Civil Litigation. I represented The Western Helicopter company and pilot, Dorcey Wingo. This litigation involving John Landis and Steven Spielberg, resulted from the helicopter accident that took the lives of Vic Morrow and two child actors. The accident occurred during the on-site filming of the Warner Bros. production of Twilight Zone, The Movie directed by John Landis. I conducted direct and cross-examination of the pilot and technical witnesses in nationally televised preliminary hearings.
Galaxy Airlines Disaster Litigation. Crash of Galaxy Air Lines Flight 201 in Reno, Nevada, on January 21, 1985, which resulted in 70 deaths. Personally handled the liability defense of over 70 wrongful death lawsuits in Nevada, Minnesota, Florida, and California state courts involving multiple parties and $50 million in damages. Coordinated local counsel in three jurisdictions in resolving all multi-state litigation.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Fire Litigation. Personally handled Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's litigation against contractors responsible for electrical fire which destroyed his Bel Air home and sports memorabilia. Negotiated settlement in excess of $1.775 million for Kareem and his insurers.
Eastern Airlines L1011/Air Caribbean Commuter Wake Turbulence Crash San Juan Puerto Rico, 1978. Represented The United States and its air traffic controllers in two-month federal trial involving Eastern Airlines, air traffic controllers, the commuter airline, and 84 wrongful death cases claiming $21 million. Won judgment for the U.S. and the air traffic controllers - selected for the 1981 U.S. Justice Department Special Achievement "Cash" Award based on trial accomplishment.
Wings West Airline Mid-Air Collision Disaster Litigation. Personally handled defense of all Wings West Airlines (American Eagle) 1984 mid-air collision and 1985 incident litigation in state and federal courts. Negotiated $6 million settlement for airline and families of deceased airline pilots in wrongful death litigation against U.S. Government and air traffic controllers.
In-N-Out Burger Orange County Airport Corporate Jet Crash. Federal Tort Claims Act Federal Government litigation resulting from Martin Aviation jet encounter with wake turbulence generated by United Airlines Boeing 757. Represented co-pilot's family and negotiated favorable settlement.
Piper Aircraft Corp. Fuel System Crashworthiness Trial. Five month fuel system product liability trial victory. Litigation involved burn death of pilot and disfigurement of female passenger with substantial punitive damage exposure.
Dugan, et al. v. LIGA International, General Aviation Aircraft Accident, 1995. Represented Flying Doctors of Mercy and their Board of Directors in settlement of wrongful death cases.
